Lighthouse Christian Church of Oceanside History - Over 46 Years of Growth & Ministry for our Lord Timeline
- Oct. 15, 1961 - 9 people begin meeting in homes to plant a non- denominational Christian church in Oceanside
- Nov. 12, 1961 - First church service is held at the Oceanside Women's Club on Missouri Street
- Dec. 24, 1961 - 17 people enroll as the charter members of Twin Cities Christian Church
- Apr. 8, 1962 - Roy Stedman is called as the first minister
- Mar. 1, 1963 - Tom Pendergrass begins his ministry; growing church moves to the 7th Day Adventist building
- Jan. 1965 - Church enters bond program to buy 3 ½ acres on MacDonald Street; Worship grows to 100
- Oct. 13, 1968 - Lee Mason begins his ministry
- Nov. 16, 1969 - First worship building is dedicated
- Dec. 19, 1971 - Richard Miller begins 22 year ministry; Worship grows to 200 by 1974
- May 22, 1977 - A Christian Education building and additional parking are added
- Aug. 1, 1993 - Richard Miller retires and becomes Minister to Seniors. Mike Openshaw begins his ministry; more parking is added for growing church, which reaches 300 by 1999
- June 1999 - Church receives notice of 14 acres of prime property available for purchase in east Oceanside at the NE corner of College & Mesa.
- Feb. 13, 2000 - Church votes to buy 14 acres for new church site at College & Mesa; Escrow closes March 29th
- Oct. 29, 2000 - $630,418 in 3-year commitments is raised by "Sharing the Light" Capital Stewardship Campaign for Building Fund
- June 11, 2001 - Church project is unanimously approved by city Planning Commissioners at public hearing
- June 24, 2001 - Groundbreaking is held to begin the 1st Phase
- Aug. 20, 2001 - Soil export and grading begins
- Nov. 11, 2001 - Church celebrates 40th anniversary
- Mar. 14, 2002 - Building permit for 1st Phase is granted; mass grading begins
- June 2, 2002 - Church votes to change name to "Lighthouse Christian Church of Oceanside," in accordance with God leading us to be a light on the hill (Matthew 5:14). A lighted cross and future light tower will reflect this theme. Name change to begin Sept. 15, 2002
- Sept. 15, 2002- Church holds Open House & Vision Service for the community in unfinished building, drawing a record 614 in attendance
- Nov. 10, 2003 - Church celebrates 41st anniversary
- Jan. 23, 2003 - MacDonald Street property sold to Hispanic Apostolic church for $1.45 million
- Feb. 2, 2003 - Dedication of 1st Phase Multi-Purpose Building draws a record attendance of 1,401
- Feb. 9, 2003 - Worship grows to 650+
- Sept. 8, 2003 - Lighthouse Christian Preschool begins
- Jan. 2004 - Worship grows to 700+
- Feb. 1, 2004 - Church celebrates 1 year anniversary in new location
- June 6, 2004 - Third Worship Service is added for growth
- Fall, 2004 - New Youth Director, Worship Minister, and Office Manager are hired.
- September, 2005 - Kindergarten added to Christian School
- Nov. 13, 2005 - Church celebrates 44th anniversary
- September, 2006 - Lighthouse Preschool becomes Lighthouse School. First Grade is added to School.
- November 12, 2006 - Church celebrates 45th anniversary
- August, 2007 - Lighthouse Christian School adds Second Grade
- September 9, 2007 - Church celebrates a Flag Pole Dedication Ceremony in the front patio area to fly the United States flag, the Christian flag, and the California flag
- November 11, 2007 - Church celebrates 46th anniversary
- Our Future - A Focus on Serving is planned for 2008.
